Welcome to Sport4Development research

Sport4Development research (S4Dr) is an Australian-based organisation specialising in research, monitoring and evaluation of sport-for-development programs and special events. Since 2002, our team has been involved in sport-based community development initiatives and health promotion projects in countries such as Australia, Sri Lanka, Israel and the Pacific Islands. We have been working with local and international NGOs, Government Agencies, Sport Associations and Ministries to develop local capacities and to achieve meaningful development outcomes for disadvantaged communities. In all our activities, we are committed to making a sustainable difference.

Our Projects

  • Tuvalu, Kiribati & Tonga
In cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), we conducted health-screenings and research around healthy lifestyle campaigns in the Pacific Islands of Tuvalu, Kiribati and Tonga.
    Israel & Palestine
We have been partnering with Football for Peace (F4P) to investigate the experiences of participants, volunteer coaches and organisers around peacebuilding projects in Israel and Palestine.
    Negev Desert
We have conducted research with Bedouin communities in ‘Unrecognised Villages’ in Israel's Negev Desert, investigating the role sport may play for marginalised and politically oppressed groups.
    Sri Lanka
S4D has been involved in program design, implementation and research activities at different sport-for-reconciliation projects between Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities in Sri Lanka.
  • Papua New Guinea
From 2014-2016, S4D will be engaged with research, monitoring and evaluation around the Australian National Rugby League's "League Bilong Laif" campaign in Papua New Guinea.
    Oceania (Netball)
S4D has been engaged in planning, monitoring and evaluating sport-for-development programs organised by Netball Australia in the Oceania region, including Papua New Guinea.
    Vanuatu, Samoa & Cook Is.
In cooperation with Just Play, S4D has conducted research in Samoa, Vanuatu and the Cook Islands to improve the management of healthy lifestyle projects in a Pacific Island context.
    New Caledonia
Invited by the New Caledonian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, S4D presented a research and development seminar at the 2013 Pacific Island Youth and Sport Conference in Noumea.
